THE ANSWER IS …..NO
The continent of Asia covers an extensive area of the world, occupying almost 30% of the landscape of earth’s surface. Interestingly, it is the most populated continent and is home to around 60% of the total world’s population (4,470,000,000 estimated). Close to 50 nations make up what is regarded as Asia, as listed alphabetically below.
United Arab Emirates (UAE)
Singapore (officially the Republic of Singapore) is a sovereign city state and island country in Southeast Asia. Its area is roughly 276 square miles. Lying 85 miles north of the equator, Singapore’s territory consists of one main island and 62 smaller islets. The mainland runs approximately 17 miles from north to south, 31 miles from east to west and offers 120 miles of coastline. The largest of Singapore’s islands are Sentosa, Jurong Island, Pulau Ubin, and Pulau Tekong. Since independence in 1965, Singapore has grown by almost 25% in size by reclaiming land! Despite it’s gradual land mass expansion, Singapore is not the smallest nation in Asia (3rd smallest)….. as this title goes to The Maldives. Brunei, is considered as the 2nd smallest.
Surprisingly, The Maldives (officially the Republic of Maldives) and a popular tourist spot in the Indian Ocean, is regarded as the smallest country in Asia, in terms of both land area and population size. Here lie over 1,000 coral islands, which cover over 116 square miles, making it one of the most dispersed countries in the world.
