SELECT REPRESENTATION WELCOMES LEA ABBASSI ‘ONBOARD’

Recruiting from another industry can bring a number of advantages to an organisation.  Recently we appointed someone who has a different working background BUT offers something we don’t already have!  Below are some of the potential benefits of looking outside the travel industry.

Fresh Ideas & Innovation: Hiring someone from a different industry can inject fresh ideas and innovative thinking into the organisation. They may have unique perspectives and approaches that can challenge the status quo and drive positive change. Their experiences in a different industry can inspire creative problem-solving and offer new insights to improve processes and strategies.

Diverse Skill Set: Individuals from other industries often bring a diverse skill set that can complement the existing team. They may possess expertise in areas that are not commonly found within the organization, such as technology, marketing, finance, or leadership. This diversity of skills can broaden the capabilities of the team and contribute to a well-rounded workforce.

Transferable Skills & Knowledge: Many skills and knowledge acquired in one industry can be transferable to another. Someone from a different industry may have developed valuable skills such as leadership, project management, communication, or analytical abilities that can be applied effectively in the new role. Their unique knowledge and experiences can bring a fresh perspective to problem-solving and decision-making.

Outside-the-Box Thinking: Employees who have not been ingrained in the industry’s norms and practices may approach challenges with a different perspective. They may question established practices, propose alternative solutions, and introduce unconventional approaches. This can foster a culture of innovation and encourage creative thinking among the entire team.

Diversity & Inclusion: Recruiting from other industries can contribute to building a more diverse and inclusive workforce. By bringing in individuals with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, organizations can enhance diversity within their teams. This can lead to richer discussions, better decision-making, and increased adaptability in a rapidly changing business landscape.

Of course, it’s important to note that hiring from outside the industry also comes with potential challenges. New hires may require additional time and resources for onboarding and learning the intricacies of the travel industry. It’s crucial to provide them with adequate support, training, and guidance to help them succeed in their new roles.

Overall, recruiting from another industry can be a strategic move that brings fresh ideas, diverse perspectives, and valuable skills to an organization. By embracing the benefits of cross-industry hiring, companies can foster innovation, drive growth, and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving business environment.
