SPEED BOATS, SEA PLANES & DHONI
Part of the fun of travelling to the Maldives, aside from the long-haul flight, is the transfer from Male International Airport to your chosen island escape. Depending on which atoll you are booked to stay in, will often determine your preferred mode of transportation. Of course, nearby atolls like the North Male & South Male atolls can be reached by traditional dhoni or speedboat. For atolls over 1 hour + away (like Raa Atoll) then the likely way is by sea plane. Without a doubt, sea planes offer the best views of the stunning coral atolls and are the perfect way to start and end your trip.
Please note that it’s important to wear the correct footwear for climbing in and out of boats and sea planes. Due to weight restrictions, it may be necessary for your luggage to be transferred by boat. In some cases, you may be required to transfer from sea plane to boat at some resorts.
Whatever mode of transport taken, you will simply love journey and the approach to your chosen island retreat.
